Cerdà & Bartolini have created art together since they met in China during the sound record field in Hangzhou. They decided that their art should be understood as emerging from a single source: silence. Deepening and exploring the nuances of silence in different cultural contexts, especially the collision between the West and the East in the exploration of sound perception combined with research into innovative materials for the production of sound sculptures.
In practical terms, this has resulted in a rich body of sound sculpture and performance defined by its focus on the world we live in from the perspective of sound in a diverse and multifaceted listening culture that indicates attitudes towards human beings, life, and the death of nature. Cerdà & Bartolini believe that in a polarized world, where debate often tends to conflict and impasse, listening and silence are the keys to disruptive art.
The Cerdà & Bartolini art encompasses sound sculpture, experimental art, and eco-art. The duo developed a concept of a sound sculpture that makes listening to a powerful social intervention. This format developed from several years of field recording worldwide both contemplating nature and cities. Their art contains all sounds of the world but mainly focuses on how to transform all those information into a silent experience of the mind.
